What’s the difference between Tabcat and Tabcat v2?
Tabcat v2 is an updated model with a smaller tag. Both versions function similarly, but they are not cross-compatible; v1 and v2 tags and handsets only work with their matching versions.
Does Tabcat work internationally?
Yes, Tabcat uses the 2.45GHz frequency band, which is compatible worldwide and works pretty much anywhere.
If I already have a Tabcat handset (purchased pre 2021), can I purchase new v2 Homing Tags?
No, the v2 tags and handsets are incompatible with older versions. They only work with Tabcats purchased from 2022.
Can I purchase additional homing tags if I already have a Tabcat v2 handset?
Yes, you can add up to four tags per handset, but ensure they match in version.
Why is Tabcat preferred over GPS trackers?
Tabcat’s RF technology tags are lightweight, very accurate over short distances, and doesn’t require recharging or subscription fees. Unlike GPS, which may not work well indoors, Tabcat provides effective indoor and outdoor tracking and avoids frequent battery recharges.
Will tags from other users affect my Tabcat handset?
No, each tag is uniquely registered to its own handset.
How do I get started with my new Tabcat?
Start by unpacking your Tabcat and reading the instruction manual. Register up to four homing tags on your handset’s buttons, adjust the volume with the left-side button, and use the right-side button to turn the device on and off. Watch our setup video here.
How do I attach the tag to my cat’s collar?
First, register the tag with the handset, then place the tag inside the silicone case. Thread your cat’s collar through both slits on the case. Using the protective case is essential, as it protects the tag from water, scratches, and minor impacts, and helps maintain your warranty.
How do you register a tag to a handset?
Place the tag near the handset, remove the battery strip, and listen for two beeps. To register it to button 1, hold the button down for three seconds or until you hear a beep. Repeat the process for each tag with the other available buttons. A video demonstration is available here.
How do I train my cat to respond to the Tabcat signal?
Associate the tag’s beep with treats or food to train your cat. Each button produces a distinct beep, which can help with recognition. After a week or two of giving a treat every time you locate (when they’re inside the house), they’ll associate the beep with a treat when they’re out with many cats learning to respond coming home on their own.
What’s the difference between unregistering and deleting a tag?
Unregistering removes a tag from the handset so it can be re-registered later to say another handset. Deleting a tag should only be done if the tag is lost, damaged, or stolen, as it may prevent the tag from being re-used
What is the weight of the Tabcat tag?
The Tabcat tag itself weighs 6 grams, 0.21 ounces.
What are the dimensions of the Tabcat homing tag?
TAG SIZE : 3cm (H) x 2cm (W) x 0.9cm (D) / 1.18in (H) x .79in (W) x 0.35in (D)
Will Tabcat interfere with microchips or cat flaps?
No, Tabcat’s signal won’t interfere with pet microchips or microchip-activated cat flaps.
What is the range of the Tabcat?
We quote a range of 150 metres / 500 feet however there are many instances (clear line of sight) where you can get significantly greater range. Likewise going through doors, walls or other obstructions will reduce the range.
Can I use Tabcat for other pets?
Yes, customers have used Tabcat for other pets like tortoises, chickens, rabbits, ferrets and small dogs.
What batteries does the Tabcat use?

How do I change the batteries in the Tabcat v2 tag?

Replace the batteries with two SR1130s, positive side up nearest the lanyard hole and face down furthest away from lanyard hole. Snap the case shut securely.
How do I change the batteries on the Tabcat handset?
If the Tabcat does not power up, work correctly or lights are faint, replace the battery using 1 x CR2032 placing in the battery compartment ‘+’ side up. Battery cover slides down to open.
Screw on lid ? (Screwdriver packed on right hand side by tags under foam)
Off : Undo screw fully then with back of handset facing down gently pull screw if needed (so it doesn’t catch) and then slide down to open.
On : Put the lid on so only the screw section is just outside the case. With back of handset face down gently pull out screw if needed then slide lid shut and tighten screw. Screw is designed not to come out fully.
How often should I replace the batteries?
Replace batteries every 2-4 months with daily use, or up to once a year with light use. Random beeps or high-pitched sounds indicate low battery.
